Caribbean Poker
Caribbean Poker is an American casino table game that plays in a very similar way to five card stud poker. However, unlike normal poker games, Caribbean poker is played against the house rather than other players.
When playing Caribbean poker the participant places their ante and then five cards are dealt to both the player and the dealer. The dealer then turns over one of his cards. The player may then fold, in which case they lose their ante, or choose to play, in which case they must bet double the ante. Then comes the showdown. If the dealer doesnt have Ace-King or better the players bet is returned as well as an amount equal to the ante. If the dealer does have Ace-King or better the player needs to have a better hand to win. If the player wins he receives his ante and also the winnings from his bet at the following odds:
| Royal Flush | 100/1 |
| Straight Flush | 50/1 |
| Four of a Kind | 20/1 |
| Full House | 7/1 |
| Flush | 5/1 |
| Straight | 4/1 |
| Three of a Kind | 3/1 |
| Two Pairs | 2/1 |
| One Pair or Less Even Money |
There is also often a progressive jackpot option where the player can contribute to the progressive pot for a set fee each hand. Flush or better will return a prize amount, with 100% of the progressive jackpot being won if the player is dealt a Royal Flush.
The house edge in Caribbean poker is 5.224% if the player uses optimal strategy. The basic strategy for Caribbean poker is to bet if you are holding a pair or better and to bet if you hold an Ace or King if that card is the same as the dealers upturned card. All other hands should be folded.
