Types of Craps Bets
It is important to understand all of the types of bet that can be placed at a craps table as well as the odds that are paid for each result.
Pass and Dont Pass
The most popular bets in craps are the Pass/Dont Pass, Come/Dont Come bets and these all pay even money.
The Pass and Dont Pass bets are placed before the first roll of the dice. Pass Line bets are winners if a 7 or a 11 are rolled, and losers if a 2,3 or 12 are rolled. If any of the other numbers are rolled, they become the point and if that point is rolled again before a 7 is rolled then Pass Line bets are again, a winner. Dont Pass bets are winners if the initial dice roll equals 2 or 3 and losers if a 7 or 11 are rolled. If any other number is rolled (apart from 12 which is a draw) then that number becomes the point. If a 7 is rolled before the point is rolled again then Dont Pass bets are rewarded.
Come and Dont Come
Come and Dont Come bets are made after the initial roll of the dice. Like the Pass Line bet, the Come bet wins if a 7 or 11 are rolled and loses if 2 or 3 is rolled. If a point number is rolled then the stake is moved onto that number and win if the point is rolled before a 7. Dont Come Bets are the complete opposite, a 2 or a 3 is a winner and a 7 or 11 is a loser. If a point is rolled then Dont Come bets win if a 7 is rolled before the point.
Bets placed between the rolls of the dice
There are bets that can be placed between all rolls of the dice and these are:
| Yo: | Winner if the shooter rolls 11. Pays 15/1 |
| 3 (ace-deuce): | Winner if the shooter rolls a 3. Pays 15/1 |
| 2 (craps aces): | Winner if shooter rolls a 2. Pays 30/1 |
| 12 (craps): | Winner if shooter rolls a 12. Pays 30/1 |
| 2 or 12 (hi-lo): | Winner if shooter rolls a 2 or 12. Pays 15/1 |
| Craps: | Winner if the shooter rolls 2, 3 or 12. Pays 7/1 < |
| C&E: | A combination bet, half of which is bet on craps and the other half on yo (11) (Pays 3/1 craps, 7/1 on 11) |
| Any 7: | Wins if a 7 is rolled. Pays 4/1 |
| Field: | Bet that one of the numbers 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12 will be the result of the next dice roll. Pays Evens on 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 2/1 on 2 or 12. |
| The Horn: | 4 bets on the next roll equalling 2, 3, 11 or 12. Pays 30/1 on 2 or 12 and 15/1 on 3 or 11. |
There are also some bets that are dependent on more than one roll but pay bigger than even money. These are the Hard Way, which is betting on a double being rolled before a 7 (odds vary depending on which double is rolled), the Easy Way is a 4,6,8 or 10 being rolled without being a double before a 7. A big 6 or 8 is a bet that one of these numbers will be rolled before a 7.
The way the player chooses his bets will depend on the type of Craps Strategy he chooses to employ. |
